Chantal Lescure

Domaine Chantal Lescure was founded in 1975 by Chantal Lescure and Xavier Machard de Gramont and is based at Nuits-Saint-Georges. After Chantal Lescure died in 1996, the estate was run by her sons Aymeric and Thibault Machard de Gramont. In January 2023 it was bought by Jean-Philippe Girard, founder of the Dijon company Eurogerm, with Éric Rousseau of Gevrey-Chambertin. François Chavériat directed the vineyards and the cellar from 1996 until his retirement, and Fabrice Groussin now makes the wines.

The domaine farms about 19 hectares spread from Meursault in the Côte de Beaune to Vougeot in the Côte de Nuits, roughly two thirds Pinot Noir and one third Chardonnay. Holdings include Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Suchots, Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Vallerots and Beaune 1er Cru Les Chouacheux, together with parcels in Pommard, Volnay, Chambolle-Musigny and Meursault. Le Clos des Topes Bizot, on the Montagne de Beaune and sold under the Côte de Beaune appellation, is a monopole of the domaine. The vineyards have been certified organic (Agriculture Biologique) since September 2009, following a conversion begun in the preceding decade, and the harvest is picked by hand.

Pommard sits in the Côte de Beaune, produces red wine only, from Pinot Noir on clay and limestone soils, and has premiers crus but no grand cru. Les Bertins is one of those premiers crus; Les Vignots is a village-level lieu-dit. The wines show dark cherry and blackcurrant fruit with firm tannins when young, and are usually served with braised or roasted meat, game or a mature Burgundian cheese. Arcana Cabinet lists these two Pommard reds from the domaine, which form one part of a range covering the length of the Côte d'Or.

Based in

Nuits-Saint-Georges, Côte de Nuits

Founded

1975, by Chantal Lescure and Xavier Machard de Gramont

Ownership

Jean-Philippe Girard and Éric Rousseau, since January 2023

Winemaker

Fabrice Groussin (François Chavériat, 1996 to his retirement)

Vineyard

About 19 hectares, from Meursault to Vougeot

Monopole

Le Clos des Topes Bizot (Côte de Beaune appellation)

Farming

Certified organic (Agriculture Biologique) since September 2009

Domaine Chantal Lescure, founded in 1975 and based at Nuits-Saint-Georges, farms about 19 hectares from Meursault to Vougeot and has been certified organic (Agriculture Biologique) since September 2009.
