As the name suggests, the vines lie beneath the ruined château of the upper village, on limestone soils that give the freshness and minerality typical of Saint-Romain whites. Saint-Romain has no premiers crus; this is a village wine from a named lieu-dit. It shows citrus, white flowers and a delicate hint of oak, with a long, chalky finish at 13% alcohol in the 2022 vintage. Serve with grilled sole, a seafood risotto, or fresh goat's cheese.
