Glengoyne distillery, in continuous operation since 1833 at Dumgoyne north of Glasgow, sits directly on the Highland Line, with its stills technically in the Highlands while its maturing casks rest across the road in the Lowlands. Unlike many Highland malts, Glengoyne is unpeated, distilled slowly to let its pure malted barley character shine through rather than relying on smoke. This 15 Year Old expression is matured in a combination of first-fill bourbon, first-fill sherry and refill casks, giving a light amber colour and a nose of malt flour, fresh hay, dried fruit and citrus, with a palate of gentle sweetness, tropical fruit, cinnamon and vanilla. Bottled at 43% ABV, it is an elegant, approachable single malt best enjoyed neat as an after-dinner dram, and a fine introduction to unpeated Highland Scotch whisky.
