Saint-Émilion — Formerly Premier Grand Cru Classé A

Three châteaux held Premier Grand Cru Classé A under the 2012 ranking and chose not to enter the 2022 classification: Ausone, Cheval Blanc and Angélus. All three are now unclassified, and from the 2022 vintage their labels no longer carry the A.

Nothing about the wines changed. Vintages up to and including 2021 were made and released as Premier Grand Cru Classé A, and they are still the same vineyards and the same teams. The estates' stated objection was to the criteria themselves, which weight communication and tourism alongside terroir and tasting.

They are listed here rather than under the current A tier so that what you are buying is unambiguous.
