Anne et Hervé Sigaut
Domaine Anne et Hervé Sigaut is a family estate based in Chambolle-Musigny, in the Côte de Nuits. The family's vineyard roots go back to Morey-Saint-Denis in the early nineteenth century. Maurice Sigaut bottled the first wines under the family name in the 1950s, beginning with a Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Sentiers, and his son Hervé took over in the 1970s. Anne Sigaut worked her first harvest here in 1984, signed her first vintage in 2004 and has run the estate since Hervé retired in 2008.
The domaine farms around seven hectares, almost all of it in Chambolle-Musigny, with a smaller holding in Morey-Saint-Denis. In Chambolle it bottles village wine and the lieux-dits Les Bussières and Derrière le Four, plus five premiers crus: Les Sentiers, Les Fuées, Les Châtelots, Les Groseilles and Les Noirots. In Morey-Saint-Denis it holds the premiers crus Les Millandes and Les Charrières. A parcel of Puligny-Montrachet Les Enseignères, bought in 1994, supplies a white wine.
Weedkillers were abandoned more than a decade ago and the soils are worked instead. Fruit is picked by hand and destemmed gently, the vats are filled by gravity, and around a quarter new oak is used over a long élevage. Les Groseilles lies on the lower part of the slope beside Les Châtelots, on cemented pebbles and salmon-coloured clay and limestone. Arcana Cabinet lists two of the five Chambolle-Musigny premiers crus, Les Châtelots and Les Groseilles, which form part of a wider range.
