VAT Refund (Détaxe) for International Visitors

If you live outside the European Union and are visiting France, you can reclaim the 20% French VAT (TVA) on your wine purchase through our détaxe partner, ZappTax. There is nothing to install at our end and no extra step at our checkout: it works through the billing address you enter.

Eligibility

  • Habitual residence outside the European Union.
  • Aged 16 or over.
  • Staying temporarily in the EU (less than 6 months).
  • At least €100.01 including VAT of purchases in France during your stay — this can be combined across several orders and several shops.
  • The bottles must be new, sealed, unconsumed, and carried out of the EU in your own personal luggage.

How it works

  1. Register with ZappTax (free): download the ZappTax app and create an account. You will be given a personal ZappTax billing address in the app.
  2. Place your order on our site. Enter an address within the European Union where you can collect the bottles — your hotel, family or friends — as the delivery address. Direct shipments outside the EU are not eligible for détaxe.
  3. At the payment step, untick “same as shipping” and enter your personal ZappTax billing address — the one shown in the ZappTax app under your account — as the billing address. The cart page reminds you of this step just before you check out.
  4. We issue the invoice in ZappTax’s name and collect the 20% VAT as normal. Download the invoice from your account and add it to the ZappTax app.
  5. The app generates a digital tax-free form. When you leave the EU, carry the sealed bottles in your luggage and validate the form at a PABLO kiosk at the airport or border.
  6. Once validated, ZappTax refunds your VAT directly in the app — to your card, PayPal or bank account.

Good to know

  • The tax-free form must be validated at PABLO before the end of the third month following the month of purchase.
  • Détaxe refunds the VAT only — French excise duty remains included in the price.
  • ZappTax charges a commission on the refunded VAT. Estimate what you would get back with the ZappTax calculator.
  • Your passport is handled securely inside the ZappTax app; we never see or store it.
