What defines white Auxey-Duresses

Auxey-Duresses lies in a valley that runs west from Meursault into the hills of the Côte de Beaune, between Meursault and Saint-Romain. Its limestone-rich soils and cooler exposures give fresh, fruity and elegant whites, with orchard fruit, a hazelnut note and good freshness, in a style close to Meursault but leaner and earlier to open.

Why choose it

White Auxey-Duresses gives the character of the white villages next door at a lower price, and it opens earlier than most Meursault or Puligny.

The wines we hold

Les Crais is a village-level Chardonnay lieu-dit farmed by Domaine Alain Gras, based just up the hill in Saint-Romain since 1979. Les Hautés is bottled under the name of Arthur Gras, Alain's son, who works alongside his father. Fabien Coche, the Meursault estate formerly known as Coche-Bizouard, makes a village Auxey-Duresses blanc. Charles Noëllat's Auxey-Duresses blanc is an older vintage, from 2000, and gives a sense of how the wine develops with age.

How long to keep and how to serve

Our cellar notes give 3 to 8 years for most white Auxey-Duresses. Serve between 12 and 14 °C. They suit grilled fish, shellfish, poultry, gougères and goat cheese.

Auxey-Duresses also makes red wine; the Comte Armand premier cru and Alain Gras's Très Vieilles Vignes are in our Côte de Beaune red collection.
