Puligny-Montrachet
Puligny-Montrachet is the most precise of the Côte de Beaune white villages: high-toned, linear Chardonnay with citrus, white flowers and a chalky finish, generally leaner in youth than Meursault and longer-lived. The village shares Montrachet and Bâtard-Montrachet with Chassagne and holds Chevalier-Montrachet and Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet outright.
Because the water table sits close to the surface, almost no red is planted here. Village Puligny usually needs three to five years and rewards ten or more; Premier Cru and Grand Cru bottlings considerably longer.
