Penderyn Sherry Cask is a single malt whisky from the Penderyn distillery in the Cynon Valley of Wales, whose 2004 launch marked the return of commercial whisky production to the country after more than a century. This expression is initially matured in ex-bourbon barrels before finishing for several months in ex-Oloroso sherry casks, which impart additional richness and dried fruit character to the naturally light, fruit-led Penderyn spirit. Bottled at 46% ABV, expect notes of orchard fruit, dried raisin, citrus, vanilla and a gentle spice on the finish, with a smoother, less smoky profile than many traditional Scotch whiskies. This is an approachable yet distinctive single malt suited to sipping neat or with a splash of water. A distinctive choice for whisky lovers looking beyond Scotland.
