The Peat Monster is a blended malt Scotch whisky created by Compass Box, the independent Scottish whisky house founded by John Glaser and known for innovative, small-batch blending. First released in 2003, it combines heavily peated single malts from Islay distilleries Laphroaig and Caol Ila with malt whisky from Ardmore and Ledaig, rounded out by a small proportion of Highland malt matured in active French oak. The result is a richly smoky, peaty whisky with a creamy, fruity underlying character, balancing coastal, medicinal smoke with orchard fruit and gentle oak sweetness. Bottled at 46% alcohol in a 70cl bottle, The Peat Monster is a favourite among smoky whisky enthusiasts and a great introduction to Islay-style peat for newcomers. Best enjoyed neat or with a few drops of water to open up its layered smoke and fruit.
