Port Charlotte Scottish Barley is a heavily peated Islay single malt from Bruichladdich distillery, made entirely from 100% Scottish-grown barley and matured in the lochside village of Port Charlotte before bottling using Islay spring water. Peated to around 40 parts per million phenols, this non-age-statement whisky is bottled at 50% alcohol, reflecting Bruichladdich's uncompromising, high-strength house style. Expect an aroma of peat smoke, crushed seashells and dates, with a palate of vanilla, toffee and smoky-sweet barley, finishing with a citrus note mellowed by oak. Best enjoyed neat or with a splash of water to open up the peat character, ideally alongside smoked fish, strong cheese, or dark chocolate. A robust, distinctly maritime single malt from one of Islay's most innovative distilleries.
