Vintage2020
Gelblack is one of the colored wax seal designations in the historic Lack system that Schloss Johannisberg, home to the world's oldest documented Riesling plantings from 1720, has used since Prince Metternich introduced it in 1820 to signal a wine's quality tier. This Gelblack bottling is a dry, Trocken-style Riesling, and the 2020 vintage, at 13% alcohol, shows the estate's typical citrus, orchard fruit and mineral, slate-driven character, sitting a step above the entry-level Bronzelack in concentration and precision. Grown on the steep south-facing slopes overlooking the Rhine, this wine shows the transparency and tension typical of Rheingau Riesling. Pair it with grilled trout, roast chicken or a creamy asparagus dish for a classic, food-friendly dry German white.
