Vintage2018
Goldlack sits toward the top of Schloss Johannisberg's historic Lack seal system, the colored wax classification introduced by Prince Metternich in 1820 to denote increasing quality and ripeness among the estate's Rieslings, grown on vineyards first planted with the variety in 1720. This Trocken, or fully dry, 2018 vintage is bottled at 12% alcohol and shows notable depth, ripe stone fruit, citrus zest and the estate's characteristic slate minerality, with a few years of bottle age adding further complexity and a rounder texture. Schloss Johannisberg's vines grow on steep, south-facing slopes above the Rhine, and Goldlack is a serious, age-worthy expression of that site. Pair it with roast veal, richer fish dishes or aged Alpine cheeses.
