Simon Colin
Domaine Simon Colin is based at Chassagne-Montrachet, in the Côte de Beaune. Simon Colin is the son of Philippe Colin and the nephew of Bruno Colin, the two brothers who divided Domaine Michel Colin-Deléger between them in 2003. He worked alongside his father, trained with his uncle and was assistant winemaker at Domaine Etienne Sauzet in Puligny-Montrachet. He started his own label in 2017, at first buying grapes from other growers, and took over 9.3 hectares of his father's vineyards from the 2021 vintage.
The vines lie in four communes: Saint-Aubin, Chassagne-Montrachet, Santenay and Maranges, roughly 6.3 hectares of Chardonnay and Aligoté and 3 hectares of Pinot Noir. The vines are farmed organically, with some biodynamic practices. Beyond the wines listed here, the range also includes Bourgogne Aligoté, Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Le Charmois, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Chenevottes and Les Chaumées Clos Saint-Abdon, a white Maranges, Santenay 1er Cru Les Gravières and a red Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Morgeot Les Brussonnes.
Simon Colin describes his aim as higher acidity and less wood influence than the previous generation. The whites are fermented and aged in barrel with a limited share of new oak, with an élevage of about twelve to fifteen months for both colours. The whites show citrus, green apple and white flowers, with a dry, tightly drawn finish. Arcana Cabinet lists seven wines from the domaine: the Bourgogne Chardonnay, the village Chassagne-Montrachet and the Chassagne-Montrachet Premiers Crus La Maltroie, Les Chaumées and Les Vergers in white, with Santenay and Maranges 1er Cru La Fussière in red, alongside the wines of his father Philippe Colin and his uncle Bruno Colin.
