Graves — Cru Classé (Rouge)
The 1959 Graves classification is the only Bordeaux ranking that classifies red and white wine separately, and the only one with a single tier: a château is Cru Classé or it is not. Sixteen estates hold it, all of them now within Pessac-Léognan, and each is classified for red, for white, or for both.
This collection holds the classified reds — Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot blends grown on the deep gravel outcrops just south of the city of Bordeaux, where the soils drain hard and the wines carry the smoky, warm-gravel character the appellation is known for. Château La Mission Haut-Brion and Château Olivier are among those listed.
Unlike the 1855 Médoc classification, the Graves list has never been revised since it was drawn up.
