Vintage2021
La Foulée was the first cuvée released by Domaine Jeanne Germain, a small 1.7-hectare Saumur-Champigny estate in the Loire Valley run by Jeanne Germain, sister of Thierry Germain of Domaine des Roches Neuves, who works some of her vines with draft horses rather than machinery. Made from 100% Cabernet Franc in line with the Saumur-Champigny appellation's rules, the wine reflects the vineyard's gravelly, tuffeau limestone soils, which give freshness, red fruit, and a distinctive mineral edge. Expect raspberry and redcurrant fruit with a herbal, leafy lift and light, silky tannins, characteristic of well-made Loire Cabernet Franc. Serve lightly chilled with charcuterie, roast poultry, or a vegetable tart. The 2021 vintage brings bright acidity and precision to this small-batch cuvée from one of Saumur-Champigny's newer, closely watched producers.
