Casa Ramos Pinto was founded in 1880 by Adriano Ramos Pinto and became known for pioneering marketing and consistently high-quality Port from the Douro Valley, before being acquired by Champagne house Louis Roederer in 1990. This 10-year-old Tawny is the house's classic aged Tawny bottling, a blend of wines matured in barrel and hogshead for around a decade, drawing on fruit from the Ramos Pinto vineyards in the Alto Corgo and Douro Superior rather than from any single quinta. It shows the golden amber color and developing nutty, dried-fruit and caramel character typical of aged Tawny Port, with a smooth, balanced palate that is neither too sweet nor too heavy. Serve slightly chilled as an aperitif or alongside nuts, hard cheese or a fruit tart.

Should this Port be decanted?

No. It was matured oxidatively in cask for a decade and bottled bright, so there is no deposit to leave behind and nothing to gain from aeration: pull the cork and pour.

How long can this Port be cellared?

It will not improve further in bottle, since the ageing was done in wood, so there is nothing to wait for: drink it at your leisure. Its great advantage is that, once opened, it keeps for several weeks recorked in the fridge without losing its character.

What food pairs well with this Port?

Serve it lightly chilled, at 12-16 °C, with walnuts and almonds, dried fruit, crème brûlée, apple tart or an aged hard cheese.
