Vintage2016
Château Angélus was promoted to Premier Grand Cru Classé A in the 2012 Saint-Émilion classification and withdrew from the 2022 classification. This 2016 vintage is bottled at 14.5% alcohol. The estate's vineyards, farmed by the de Bouard de Laforest family since 1782 and now led by eighth-generation Stéphanie de Bouard-Rivoal, are planted to roughly 51% Merlot, 47% Cabernet Franc and 2% Cabernet Sauvignon. Expect intense black fruit, wild cherry and blackberry, floral notes of peony and violet, and refined, velvety tannins, with Cabernet Franc lending a characteristic spicy, menthol lift on the finish. It is a Right Bank red built for long ageing. Pair with roast lamb, aged beef or a rich mushroom dish.
