Vintage2018
Blagny is a small hamlet straddling Meursault and Puligny-Montrachet, and its red wines, made from Pinot Noir, are labeled under the Blagny appellation itself rather than the more famous white appellations nearby. This premier cru La Pièce sous le Bois comes from Domaine Lamy-Pillot, the Chassagne-Montrachet estate founded in 1973 by René Lamy and Thérèse Pillot and now run by sons-in-law Sébastien Caillat and Daniel Cadot-Lamy. The 2018 vintage, a ripe and generous year in Burgundy, shows dark cherry fruit, earthy spice and firmer tannin than typical Chassagne reds, at 13.5% alcohol, reflecting Blagny's cooler, more elevated terroir. Pair with roast game, duck or a mature Burgundian cheese. A characterful premier cru red from the small Blagny appellation.
