BOUCHARD Père & Fils
Bouchard Père & Fils is one of Burgundy's large historic houses: a Beaune firm founded in 1731 by Michel Bouchard, buying vineyards from the middle of the eighteenth century and installed since 1820 at the Château de Beaune, acquired that year by Bernard Bouchard and used ever since as headquarters and cellars. It works both as a négociant and as a substantial domaine in its own right, and has long been among the largest vineyard owners in the Côte d'Or. The Bouchard family sold to Joseph Henriot in 1995, and the house has belonged to François Pinault's Artémis Domaines since 2022.
The grands crus are the white Montrachet, on the boundary that Puligny and Chassagne share, and Chevalier-Montrachet, the steeper, stonier band immediately above it lying wholly within Puligny-Montrachet; and, on the Corton hill above Aloxe-Corton, Corton-Charlemagne from the upper slopes and Le Corton, the only red grand cru of the Côte de Beaune. Beaune is the historic heart of the holding: the Vigne de l'Enfant Jésus, a parcel of 3.91 hectares inside the premier cru Les Grèves bought by the house in 1791; the walled Clos de la Mousse, a monopole; and Les Marconnets at the northern edge of the appellation, on the Savigny-lès-Beaune boundary. South of Beaune the range runs on into Pommard premier cru and Volnay premier cru Taille-Pieds, with further premiers crus in Meursault, Beaune and Volnay.
Conversion to organic farming began in 2009 and reached the whole estate with the 2025 vintage, when all of its own parcels were certified; earlier vintages, including those listed here, were farmed during that conversion. The wines are made in a classical Beaune idiom: reds of measured extraction, whites built on the limestone of the Côte de Beaune. One recent change bears on the labels. In October 2025 Artémis moved some thirty-five hectares of the top crus, among them Montrachet, Chevalier-Montrachet, the grand cru holdings on the Corton hill, Volnay Caillerets and the Vigne de l'Enfant Jésus, into a newly created Domaine des Cabottes, which bottles under its own name from the 2023 vintage; vineyards in Meursault, Pommard, Volnay and Beaune premier cru stay under the Bouchard Père & Fils name. The Bouchard-labelled bottles listed here predate that split. Arcana Cabinet lists nine wines from the house: the grands crus Montrachet, Chevalier-Montrachet, Corton-Charlemagne and Le Corton; the Beaune premiers crus Les Marconnets, Grèves Vigne de l'Enfant Jésus and Clos de la Mousse Monopole; a Pommard premier cru; and Volnay premier cru Taille-Pieds. The range also includes Meursault premiers crus, Volnay Caillerets and a long list of further Beaune premiers crus.
