Vintage2021
Clos de Tavannes is a premier cru climat in the north-eastern group of Santenay, on the slopes that fall towards Chassagne-Montrachet. This red comes from Domaine Françoise et Denis Clair, a family estate created in 1986 whose Santenay vines, inherited on Denis Clair's side, form the core of its 14 hectares. The Pinot Noir is vinified by his son Jean-Baptiste Clair, who joined in 2000 and has directed production since 2011; Denis has since died. The 2021 Burgundy vintage was marked by April frost and a cool, wet summer, generally producing lighter, fresher reds with lower yields and pronounced red-fruit character. Expect cherry, redcurrant and a savoury, earthy undertone. Pair with roast lamb, duck or a beef stew.
