Vintage2021
This red premier cru from Sur le Sentier du Clou, a Saint-Aubin climat on the slope above the village, is made by Domaine Françoise et Denis Clair, a family estate created in 1986 that farms 14 hectares in the Côte de Beaune, 8.5 of them Pinot Noir and 5.5 Chardonnay. It is run day to day by Jean-Baptiste Clair, who joined in 2000 and has directed production since 2011; his late father Denis founded the domaine with Françoise. The 2021 Burgundy vintage was low-yielding after April frost and a cool, wet summer, generally giving lighter-bodied, fresher reds with pronounced red fruit rather than heavy structure. Expect red cherry, redcurrant and a fine, savoury spice, with the softer tannins usual in Saint-Aubin rouge. Serve with roast poultry, charcuterie or a mushroom tart.
