Domaine Humbert Frères' Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru is the flagship of this small Gevrey-Chambertin estate, run since 1993 by cousins of the Dugat family and specializing in Pinot Noir across seven hectares in Gevrey-Chambertin and Fixin. Grand Cru wines here are aged in 100% new oak, part of a meticulous approach that includes cold pre-fermentation maceration and lunar-calendar-timed vineyard work. The 2017 vintage in Burgundy was generous and relatively abundant after several difficult years, generally yielding ripe, well-balanced wines. Expect dark cherry, rose and baking spice, with structured tannins and a long, mineral finish typical of this Côte de Nuits Grand Cru. Pair with roast venison, braised beef or a strong aged cheese.
