Pommard
Pommard produces the firmest, most tannic reds of the Côte de Beaune, grown on iron-rich clay and limestone. The wines are dense and dark-fruited in youth and need time; the leading Premiers Crus, Les Rugiens and Les Épenots, are widely considered of Grand Cru standard even though the commune has no Grand Cru.
Only Pinot Noir is bottled under the appellation. Domaines represented include Comte Armand. Expect to wait five to ten years on village wines and longer on the Premiers Crus.
