Vintage2020
While Meursault is overwhelmingly known for white Chardonnay, the appellation also permits a small amount of red wine from designated parcels, and Les Criots is one such site farmed by Domaine Jean-Michel Gaunoux. Founded in 1990 by Jean-Michel Gaunoux and now guided by his son Henri, the domaine works six hectares across Meursault, Pommard, Puligny-Montrachet and Volnay with low-yield green harvesting and pesticide-free soil management. It bottles its wines under two names, Jean-Michel Gaunoux and Jean-Michel Gaunoux-Hudelot, the latter adding the maiden name of Delphine Gaunoux, who co-manages the estate. This red Meursault, made from Pinot Noir, is vinified with a light touch, minimal new oak and no fining or filtration. The 2020 vintage shows red cherry, earthy spice and moderate, approachable tannins. Serve with roast poultry, charcuterie or a mushroom tart.
