Vintage2018
Corton-Charlemagne is one of only two white Grand Cru appellations in the Côte de Beaune, made entirely from Chardonnay, and Domaine Julien Gros's 2018 vintage is bottled at 14% alcohol. Julien Gros, a seventh-generation winemaker based in Premeaux-Prissey near Nuits-Saint-Georges, created this small domaine in January 2016 from family parcels recovered from Domaine Gros Ch. & Fils, and this Grand Cru, drawn from the Les Languettes climat, is one of just four appellations in his tightly focused range. Aged 12 to 14 months in 500-litre barrels, the wine shows the power, richness and long ageing potential typical of Corton-Charlemagne, with notes of toasted hazelnut, honey and citrus over a firm mineral core. Pair with roast lobster, veal in cream sauce or a mature Comté.
