Vintage2022
Les Champeaux is a premier cru at the northern edge of Gevrey-Chambertin, perched between 330 and 350 metres on shallow, rocky soil. The altitude and the exposure make it one of the cooler sites in the commune. Denis Mortet set up under his own name with four and a half hectares inherited from his father Charles; since his death in 2006 his son Arnaud has run the estate and moved the style towards infusion. The soils here have been turned by horse for some years. The 2022 shows dark red and black fruit, fine spice and firm but polished tannins, with the structure and mineral edge the site gives. It pairs with roast lamb, venison or a mature Burgundian cheese.
