Clos du Château de la Maltroye is the estate's monopole, a walled premier cru vineyard wrapped around the château itself at the western edge of Chassagne-Montrachet, owned and bottled by Château de la Maltroye alone. Jean-Pierre Cornut has been owner and winemaker since 1993. This is Pinot Noir, with more depth and structure than the village Chassagne rouge: dark cherry, spice and a firm, mineral backbone from the same limestone that carries the estate's whites. Serve with roast duck, braised beef or a mature Burgundian cheese.
