Vintage2020
Pur Noir is a cuvée of Cornas from Domaine du Tunnel, the estate founded in 1994 by Stéphane Robert in Saint-Péray, in the northern Rhône. The cellar has been housed since 2014 in a 170-metre dressed-stone tunnel at the lieu-dit Barras, cut for the former steam line between Valence and Vernoux-en-Vivarais. Made from 100% Syrah from old vines on the steep granite slopes of Cornas, worked by hand, the 2020 is denser and more concentrated than the domaine's village Cornas, with dark fruit, floral and peppery notes and a firm, structured finish. Robert uses older barrels, which keeps oak in the background. Pair with venison, braised short rib or a strong blue cheese.
