Morgeot is the largest premier cru climat of Chassagne-Montrachet, spread across the broad southern sector of the commune where deeper, clay-rich soils give the fullest-bodied of the village whites. Alex Moreau took sole charge of the domaine in 2020, and from the 2021 vintage Domaine Bernard Moreau et Fils became Domaine Alex Moreau, earlier vintages keeping the Bernard Moreau label; the family has grown vines in Chassagne since 1809. The vineyards are farmed without herbicides, on organic fertilisers and cover crops, and the whole crop is picked by hand. The ripe 2023 vintage gives a generous Morgeot with ripe white peach, toasted almond and a savoury, mineral-tinged finish. It stands up to richer dishes such as roast veal, lobster in cream sauce or a mature washed-rind cheese.
